You know how some people are naturally able to wake up, jump out of bed and achieve everything they need to do, even before the sun has started to rise?
  
Until recently, I was definitely not one of those people…

I was the kind of person who groaned when the alarm went off and hit the snooze button a few times, which somehow made me feel even more groggy!?

Somedays I could swear I was existing in a zombie-like state…

You know the one, where you’re so tired you’ve gone past regular brain fog and instead are frustratingly trapped in survival mode no matter how much caffeine you consume?

It didn’t seem to matter what time I intended to get up…

I always ended up running around, starting my day feeling stressed out, rushed and needing at least 26 hours a day to get everything done...
With everything that was going on in my life, I would often be up late trying to get things done forgoing on sleep as I rushed to make a deadline…

But for me, it wasn’t just about trying to fit in work, family and all the other demands on my time.

I was also having to manage a life-limiting health complication which quite literally sapped me of all my energy leaving me severely fatigued and often totally exhausted at the end of the day.

All of which left me with the only alternative; trying to catch up with sleep at the weekend.

Like many of us, a few years ago I decided I needed to make a change in my life.

I couldn’t go on just accepting that every day I’d be too exhausted to function.

So I started to research ways to increase energy, stamina and motivation...
  
I uncovered so much research which showed having a morning routine could greatly impact what happened during the rest of my day.

Bearing in mind, my aforementioned lack of morning enthusiasm… this discovery didn’t phase me.

Instead ever being someone who embraces a challenge, I decided I would spend the next 30 days getting up earlier in the morning and developing a simple stress-free morning routine.

Those who knew me laughed when I said I was going to make a commitment to following this process for 30 days.

To be honest, rather than putting me off…

It made me even more determined to do it and be successful (I am the type of person that if someone says I can’t do something I will go all out to prove to them that I can!)

Some people might call that being stubborn but I prefer to call it perseverance and determination.

But more than that…

I also desperately wanted to experience being one of those people who literally bounced out of bed feeling happy and excited about their day ahead, rather than wanting to crawl back under the covers for another 10 minutes and taking several hours before I could even hold a conversation with someone.

So I dutifully did what everyone suggested...

Things like putting my alarm clock across my bedroom so that I wasn’t tempted to hit the snooze button a million times like I usually did…
  
I set it for 30 minutes earlier than usual (aaargh!) and got myself into the right mindset, by telling myself that it would be an adventure rather than a punishment...

The very next morning, I woke up and groaned.

It felt like it was a monumental effort just getting myself out of bed.

Every cell in my body was screaming out for more sleep…

I crawled out of bed, unplugged the alarm clock and crawled right back in again…

After all, I deserved it right?

The self-sabotaging part of me was trying to tell me that it really wouldn’t matter that much if I just missed one morning and gave myself a bit of much-needed sleep.

Maybe just on a Sunday… no harm done… it would do me good, wouldn’t it?

Plus, I could always start the next day, couldn’t I?

It was genuinely a struggle to wake up extra early… especially as I usually went to sleep quite late, due to working and being a busy Mum.

I even found myself needing a 10-minute power nap in the afternoon just so that I could get through the rest of the day...

For weeks I went through this morning routine tussle.

The problem was, that not only did I not manage to wake up, spring out of bed and conquer the world as I planned…

I started to feel guilty, useless and miserable.

I started to think things like; if I couldn’t even master this one small thing how on earth could I ever change the big things in my life?

Thankfully, I’d been on a spiritual journey for a while by this point and instantly snapped myself out of the negative spiral…

Instead, I got proactive.

I knew there must be something out there which would help me so I did what every determined entrepreneur does - I went to Google

I dived into the latest research in sleep routines, making habits, breaking habits and even asked my ‘morning’ friends what they do to make sure they get out of bed.

Then one day, sitting in my living room I discovered that...

According to studies, the first hour of your day, especially before 8 am, is when your energetic vibration is set for the rest of your day...

I mean, how weird is that?

That there’s an actual biological time limit on when you should be getting up if you want to have a positive day!

Anyway, more than just discovering the biological time limit…

Finding out that the frequency of your morning vibration quite literally determines whether your day is going to be good or bad!

Just think about your own life for a moment…

Have you ever woken up and done something like stub your toe on the bed?

Then you start to feel angry and frustrated because you didn’t want to be getting up for work anyway…

Next, you head downstairs, still reeling but pretending you’re not, then go on to spill the orange juice, have an argument with your partner, lose your keys, be late for work...

Literally, nothing went right from the moment you opened your eyes to the moment you got back into bed hours later...

Your whole day happened because of the energetic set point the moment you opened your eyes…

Thankfully, I also discovered that just because it’s set the moment you wake up, it doesn’t have to stay that way… 

In fact, if you take the opportunity to change it as soon as you realise, you can turn a terrible morning into a phenomenal rest of the day!

Armed with reams and reams of research I created a plan to help me succeed.

First I listed out everything which I had around me that could help to raise my vibrations.

I wrote down the names of people who made me laugh, created a playlist on YouTube of songs, funny videos and motivational talks, I even changed my room around so that as soon as I woke up the first thing I saw brought a smile to my face.

Next, I started working on clearing out any past sabotaging belief patterns, freeing myself of negative past experiences and accepting the fact that any past failures do not determine my future.

Finally, I made it a habit to check my vibrations and tune into how I was feeling the moment my alarm went off.

Whenever I was feeling negative, I’d stop what I was doing and work through my powerful potential practice before taking action on anything that needed to be done.

Even though I knew it takes 30-45 days of daily, consistent action to rewire your brain into a new habit, meaning if I missed a day I would have to start all over again…

Knowing full well, this would have a knock-on effect and therefore take me even longer to achieve the results I wanted to see.

As usual, life seemed to get in the way...

I just always seemed to be so busy.

There were so many other things which always needed to get done.

My thoughts were constantly occupied by the mundane day-to-day things which if not done would see everything else in my life spiral out of control.

I’d get to the end of the day and realise once again that I hadn’t managed to find the time to do the one thing that I needed to which was having a positive impact on my life.

Sometimes, I’d go a full week completely committed.

Then just like old times forget…

It just didn’t seem to make sense to me…

I had this unbelievably powerful potential practice which would instantly flip my mindset and get my energy flowing…

Yet, I was still struggling to turn it into a daily habit…

It was as though my brain was already too full.

It felt like it was just another task that had to get ticked off the list.

I realised that I just wasn’t fully committed to it…

I guess, in all honesty… I simply didn’t believe 100% that I could achieve it...

It was so frustrating!

It really did feel like I was stuck firmly between where I had been and where I wanted to go.

I knew that if I didn’t change something I would find myself reverting back to my old habits and then end up just complaining that it hadn’t worked!

Even though I knew that I wanted to start this as a new habit, I wasn’t really sure why.

So, I went back to my plan, my research and thought about the times when I had successfully been able to change my sabotaging patterns…

In an instant it hit me...

I’d forgotten to get crystal clear clarity on why I actually wanted to embed the habit!

You see, taking action, even embedding a powerful potential practice into your day is always ineffective if you can’t link it to the bigger picture of what you want to achieve.

I’d been doing it because I thought it might help...

I thought it might make me successful because I’d heard other successful people do it...

I even thought I’d be able to use it as a way to manifest more hours into my day to get everything done…

But I hadn’t taken the time I needed to tune into why it truly mattered to me.

To my life.

To my success.

To my future.

After being struck by that bolt of intuitive lightning, I spent a few minutes in a super quick meditation session and a subconscious deep dive into what it would mean for me to be a ‘morning’ person.

Then I once again set my commitment to make it happen.

It was crazy.

This one little thing made all the difference!

Now armed with a heartfelt reason to make it happen I was able to keep strong and stick to the commitment I had made.

In fact, this time, even after day 3 it wasn’t even a ‘struggle’ anymore!
Because I now had crystal clear clarity on why I was committing to becoming a morning person and my powerful potential practice to catch me anytime I slipped up, I made it.

But other than just building a new habit my whole life experience changed…

As I moved through my days, I noticed that they unfolded in the most magical way.

Everything seemed to just flow easily and effortlessly and I very quickly realised that tuning into my intention and following through with my powerful potential practice was the most important part of my day.

If I just got this part right for 30 minutes each morning, then everything else seemed to fall into place.

Day by day, I started experiencing little daily miracles...

I went for my morning coffee and the lady said she was gifting me a free one just because she felt like it. 

I noticed that when I used it, I would walk out of my front door in the morning feeling excited, motivated and inspired about my day ahead but when I didn’t, my energy was lower and things just didn’t seem to flow right.

I smiled at people even more than usual and took the time to pay strangers compliments.

More importantly, I felt happier and more grateful, no matter how busy my life was.

More work started coming my way and I realised that not only was this the best practise to influence my personal life positively but it was also the thing that was creating successful results in my business!

The best thing about this whole process is that getting up in the morning stopped being a chore.

Instead, it began to be something I actually started to look forward to the night before.

In truth, I didn’t even have to think about it anymore, as my body just went into automatic pilot.

After many ups and downs I can happily report, I am no longer a night owl and am firmly a morning person!
Regardless of what habit you’re trying to change, the same will be true for you.
